Why two signs the same width cost different amounts
You pick the width. The height is worked out from your words and your font, because letting you set both produces a sign nobody can build — letters that have to stretch or squash to fit the box you drew.
That is why a short word costs more than a long phrase at the same width. "OPEN" at 40 inches makes letters roughly four times taller than "The Bloom Room" at 40 inches does, and it is the area of the finished piece that gets priced. Script fonts run taller than block fonts for the same text, so they land in the same place.
Is there a minimum price for a small sign?
Yes. Anything that works out under 1.5 square feet is billed at 1.5 square feet, which puts the floor at $242.50 before backing and mounting. A tiny sign takes nearly as much hand-bending, wiring, testing and packing as a large one, and the alternative to a floor is pricing small jobs at a loss and quietly declining them.
Is LED neon cheaper than real glass neon?
Usually by a wide margin, and it is not only the sticker price. Glass neon is hand-blown and gas-filled, runs at high voltage, needs a specialist to repair, ships as a fragile item and is expensive to insure. LED neon flex gives the same continuous glow, runs on low-voltage DC, draws a fraction of the power, survives being couriered, and can be cut to shapes a glass bender would refuse.
Glass still wins on one thing: the slight flicker and depth of colour a purist can spot across a room. If that is the point of the sign, buy glass. For a shopfront, a studio wall or a wedding, LED is the sane answer.
