Ultra slim light boxes

Edge-lit aluminium frames about 30mm deep, with the LEDs hidden and the light even.

Ultra slim light boxes: what to know

Ultra slim means edge-lit. The LEDs sit along the inside edge of an aluminium extrusion and fire sideways across a diffuser, rather than sitting behind the graphic pointing at you. That geometry is the entire reason the unit can be around 30mm deep and still light a poster evenly.

The trade-off is that edge lighting is harder to get right. Light has to travel from the frame to the centre of the panel, so an underspecified box goes grey in the middle and bright at the borders. The two things that fix it are LED density along the edge and the quality of the diffuser, and both are decided at manufacture — you cannot improve a patchy light box afterwards.

That is why we quote LED density rather than only outside dimensions. A 30mm frame from two suppliers can look identical on a product page and completely different on a wall at night.

  • Around 30mm deep

Sits flat enough to read as part of the wall rather than a cabinet bolted to it.

  • Snap-open frame

All four edges hinge. Changing a poster takes half a minute without removing the unit.

  • Even, dot-free light

Higher LED density and a heavier diffuser than the price bracket usually gets.

  • Indoor and outdoor

IP-rated sealed versions for exterior use. Say where it is going and we quote the right one.

Common questions

How thin is an ultra slim light box?
Our standard edge-lit frames are about 30mm deep including the frame — thin enough to sit flat against a wall while still leaving room for a diffuser thick enough to hide the LEDs.
Why does a cheap light box look patchy?
Too few LEDs along the edge for the panel size, or a diffuser too thin to spread them. You see it as a grey centre, bright borders, or a row of visible dots near the frame. Neither is fixable after manufacture.
Can I change the poster myself?
Yes. Snap frames hinge open on all four sides — lift, swap, click shut. No tools and no taking the unit off the wall.
What sizes do you make?
A4 up to A0 as standard, plus made-to-measure for fascias and recessed openings. Send the opening dimensions rather than the poster size if it is going into a recess.

Not sure which is right? Ask us — we will tell you if the cheaper option is the better one for what you are doing.
