Choosing neon signs
LED neon is not glass. It is a flexible silicone tube lit along its length, mounted on a clear acrylic backing cut to the shape of the letters. That matters practically: it does not shatter, it runs cool enough to touch, it draws about as much power as a household bulb, and it can be posted without a crate and an insurance conversation.
What it keeps from glass is the look — an even, continuous line of light rather than a strip of visible dots. The tell of a cheap LED neon is exactly that: individual diodes showing through a thin tube, especially on tight curves where the bend stretches the silicone.
Everything custom gets a proof before anything is cut. You see the exact letterforms, dimensions and colour on the backing shape we intend to build, and nothing starts until you say so. Changes at that stage are free and unlimited, because a sign that says what you meant is cheaper for both of us than a remake.
Common questions
- How much does a custom neon sign cost?
- Price follows the length of tube, which follows the letterforms rather than the word count — a long word in a tight script can use less tube than a short one in a wide font. The configurator quotes as you type rather than making you request a quote.
- Are LED neon signs expensive to run?
- No. They draw roughly what a household bulb does and are rated for around 50,000 hours — about six years of continuous use. Everything is dimmable, so what works at 6pm is not blinding at midnight.
- Can a neon sign go outside?
- Only if it is built for it. Outdoor units need a sealed IP-rated tube and a weatherproof transformer, which is a different build rather than an upgrade. Tell us where it is going before you order.
- How is it mounted?
- Most signs ship ready to hang on the fixings supplied — wall screws, standoffs or hanging chain depending on the backing. Every order includes the plug for your country and a dimmer where relevant.
